THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the well-dressed businessman was dallying with politics and was in fact being groomed by a political party to run in an upscale constituency in the Corporate Area.

The businessman had found favour with members of the political organisation as he had the right image. But since news broke of the video clips which show him in a sexual act with a 'talkative' male, prominent partymembers have been saying "not in my party".

"Now, no one wants to touch him with a long pole," declared the politician. "His political future is about as dead as a doornail," 

It's understood that the businessman has also lost a lot of business since the allegations started to spread like wildfire.

"But no one is waiting to hear his side, he is now tainted, a member said.

The businessman, who is believed to be overseas, has been vehemently denying existence of the alleged affair.

A member of the Tivoli Gardens-based Presidential Click, who allegedly shot at police at the Denham Town Police Station just hours after reporting there in relation to another matter, was further remanded yesterday when he appeared in the High Court Division of the Gun Court.

Colin Mann, also known as ‘Gummy Bear’, was remanded until July 23, following a failed bail application.

The police are alleging that on the afternoon of May 23, the West Kingston resident fired at police at the station after going there in the morning for his regular report, a condition of his bail in relation to another charge.

Mann was recognised and arrested the following day. He was charged with two counts of shooting with intent. He had been on bail on a similar charge when he allegedly committed the second shooting offence.

The last incident occurred as gunmen loyal to former Tivoli Gardens don Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke challenged lawmen and set fire to the Hannah Town and Darling Street police stations in their attempt to prevent Coke’s capture.

SEAN KINGSTON ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSUALT

20 yr old Singer Sean Kingston has been accused of sexual assault, but sources say cops don't believe the woman.

The alleged incident occurred Sunday night, at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Seattle.  Sources say two women showed up for a party in one of the hotel rooms.  Kingston was present. Case of groupie gone mad?

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ...  the women were both intoxicated when they arrived, with bottles of vodka and beer in hand.  One of the women claims Kingston had sex with her, and, as one source says, "She was very aggressive."  Kingston then left the party and went to another room on the same floor.The second woman, we're told, also had sex with someone in the room.

The fire department and ambulance was called and transported both women 19 and 20 years of age to a hospital where rape tests and test 4 Rufinol was done. The results or not yet in.

Several vendors, who operate in business district of downtown Kingston have called on police to intensify their efforts to clamp down on suspected extortionists operating in the commercial hub.

“I am still to carryout a review of the crime statistics but until then I cannot say much on the issue, I will however look into the matter,” Deputy Superintendent Horace Creary from Kingston West Police Division said.

“We happy for what the police doing but we need to see them more,” one vendor said.

“This is true but sometime we cannot talk we afraid,” said another vendor, who seemed to be a spokesperson for a small group.

THE BBC is reporting today that Britain's sports minister is offering to help Usain Bolt sort out his tax issues there.

Bolt said yesterday that he wouldn’t compete at next month's Crystal Palace Diamond League meeting because of British tax rules.

The Olympic and world champion in the 100 and 200 metres said he decided to skip the event after his agent informed him he would lose money by competing in London.

"I'm definitely not going to run (in Crystal Palace)," Bolt said yesterday.

But this morning the BBC said the sports minister was willing to look into the issue to see if he could help, citing a willingness to take the issue up with the treasury, if approached.

The charges stem from an alleged attack on a police constable in New Kingston in 2007.

SUMFEST SAYZ THEY STILL EXPECT KARTEL

Despite reports that deejay Vybz Kartel is to spend another 30 days in jail, Reggae Sumfest promoters remain optimistic that he will be on the show.

The artiste, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was detained over a week ago after he was listed among six men whose names was released three days earlier by the police and were urged to turn themselves in.

After doing so, his 24-hour detention was extended to five days.

The artiste's legal representative, lawyer Christian Tavares-Finson, says that Kartel's five-day detention order was extended again, this time for another 30 days, as Kartel was served with papers which informed him of the development.

When contacted, chairman of Summerfest Productions, Robert Russell, said there are still hopes that Vybz Kartel will perform on dancehall night at Reggae Sumfest, scheduled to take place in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, on July 22.

"We are expecting that he will be released in time for the performance"

PORTMORE CALLS 4 RETURN OF BICYCLE COPS

While residents of Portmore are calling for the return of the bicycle patrol, a number of the two-wheel transports continue to rust at the Portmore Police Station.

"Let me tell you, when there were police patrolling on bicycles, we have less robberies of cellphones, houses and other such crimes were under control," Novelette, a housewife, said.

The police recently admitted that there was an increase in criminal activities in the Greater Portmore communities.

Novelette's view was echoed by others who said crimes in their community have increased since the cycles have been off the streets for almost a year.

FORMER MP HORACE CLARKE HAS PASSED AWAY

Horace Clarke, a stalwart politician and former government minister, died 
Saturday at the Andrews Memorial Hospital in St Andrew. He was 75 
years-old. 

Dr Morais Guy, who succeeded Clarke as member of parliament for Central St 
Mary in 2002, told The Gleaner that Clarke had suffered a stroke on July 2 
and had been hospitalised since.

Sugar Minott who's defined by most as the Godfather of Dancehall died yesterday evening (July 10, 2010).

The reggae singer is said to have died from a heart attack in Jamaica last night Sugar Minott, who has contributed significantly to the development of reggae music through his Youthman Promotions, had earlier this year confirmed that he had was diagnosed with Angina Pectoris.

JAMAICANS MAKE FINALS AT NACAC CHAMPS

With only three teams in the female race, Jamaica should get a medal as long as they complete the race, while there were five teams in the men's race.

ALL but one of the 10 Jamaicans in action on yesterday's second day of the three day NACAC Under-23 Championships at Ansin Sports Complex in Florida advanced to their respective final with the meet ending today.

With no Jamaicans contesting finals yesterday, the island's medal count stayed at five — one gold, two silvers and two bronzes from Friday's first day.


The US have so far won 31 medals, including 14 goals, 10 silver and seven bronze. Mexico and Canada have identical tallies of two gold, two silvers and three bronze, while the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago all have one medal each.

Jamaica will be seeking to add to their medal tally today as they take part in seven events. Triple jump champion Kimberly Williams and Salcia Slack will contest the women's long jump; Andrew Batchelor is in the men's high jump; Raymond Brown and Odane Richards will take art in the men's shot put, while there will be representatives in both 200m, 400m hurdles and mile relays.
