FAKE DOCTOR CAUGHT IN STATE OF EMERGENCY


A man accused of practising illegally as a medical doctor for over 10 years in the Mountain View area of St Andrew, was remanded in custody for psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Friday.
The accused, Dolphy Gilpin, 53, was arrested on July 20 during a curfew that was imposed in East Kingston under the State of Emergency. Allegations are that the accused was driving along Mountain View Avenue when he was stopped by police officers and during a search of his car, medical equipment was allegedly found.
The police reportedly became suspicious and decided to conduct further checks at his home. During a subsequent search of his premises, the police found a sphygmomanometer, a stethoscope, syringes, needles and a stash of pharmaceutical items.The police also found 28 copies of general licence application forms that were affixed with Gilpin's signature.He was later arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of property, forgery and practising medicine without a licence, after it was revealed that he was not licensed to be a doctor and was warned by the by the Medical Association of Jamaica to desist from practising but ignored the warning.
