this was on the gleaner site and then pulled:
I feel that Reggae Sumfest should use this divine sign in order to go through a spiritual as well as physical change to their show. This was the first time in 15 years that I did not attend Sumfest. As a victim of domestic abuse, I was both dismayed and shocked, that two individuals that have been confirmed abusers of woman were elevated and and being praised this year by organizers. Bounty Killer who will have go on trial for beating a police officer with an illegal firearm this Oct, was recently arrested for domestic abuse. Jah Cure a convicted rapist that still has not offered an official apology, As well as Chris Brown, convicted of beating his girlfriend last year. How can Sumfest Organizers and Bounty Killer's manager Sharon Burke continue to reward this kind of abusive behavior with awards and praises. Should we not treat criminals like they deserve to be treated, and shun them from our society. How can we grow a country of leaders if we do not show them that certain behavior should not be rewarded. The mud was a sign from The Lord, these persons who control our greatest resource "reggae" need to a cleansing, and need to step up to their responsibility to this country, not their pockets.

This is why it was welcomed when you sought to expose some of the DL entertainers in the business. Unfortunate that the "links" got cold feet but keep dong what you do
ReplyDeleteI grew up in this sorta shit so i know its wrong. Kizzy i am glad i didn't go and also for said reasons and guess what i still have my tickets brand new. dwl . I thought i was the only paranoid one. Jamaica is the only country that seem to promote one wrong and bann another.
ReplyDeleteJamaica Alone??? Chris Brown still performs in the US and many other countries abroad. also Bounty Killa.
ReplyDeleteCut the crap. He that is without sin cast the first stone. Everybody a gwaan like dem innocent. Every makes mistakes. Is a good thing you didnt go anyway cause there was just not enough space there for one more idiot.
ReplyDeleteI went to Sumfest and had a BLAST. I am glad ppl like you with such strong convictions boycott the entire event, it shows that there are still people that mean what they say and say what they mean, and act on what they say and mean. Well done! Now,you can proceed to encourage the jamaican society to do the same. The criminal record of many of the entertainers in the Sumfest line up are colourful. I suggest you start a rally so that all reggae shows have only artistes with no criminal charge history in its line up. And while you are at also rally to get rid of the immoral Prime Minister. Good luck : )
ReplyDeleteIs it the person who put the post in the gleaner or the one who posted this comment earlier unu cussing...*just wondering*
ReplyDeleteWell Chris Brown was still a teenager when this happened. He has apologized and tried to make ammends which is more than I can say for the big ole gray tone man dem weh still a put dem hand pon woman. Chris is still young and you can judge him by this one incident.. lets see what comes in the future and I am hoping he does not not go down that road again.
ReplyDeleteHe should be forgiven.
But as for the others who old and still repeating their behavior and not seeking help... all I can say to them.. unuh nuh buck the right woman yet.. ah hoooh..
DON'T KNOW BOUT NOBODY ELSE ME A TALK THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE POST IN THE PAPER
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's appropiate to be NASTY to anyone for voicing their opinions. Both the person who commented on the article and the person who wrote about being abused have very legitimate concerns and points and it is nobody's right to put them down for those reasons.
ReplyDeleteKizzy as the organizer of this blog I expect you to promote an environment where people can voice their opinions and concerns without being attacked! It's just tacky we are all adults here, there is no need for name calling!! An individual does not need to be called an idiot simply because their experience with abuse has esulted in them being more passionate about the state of reggae music's affairs.
I happen to agree with BOTH sides. I think it's didgusting that the rapist never made a formal apology for something he in fact did. I think it's disgusting that Bounty and others are women beaters and our society turns a blind eye to their wrongs. Chris Brown lost a tremendous amount of money and respect from his fans because of what he did and he appears to have learned from his mistake. Nothing of that sort has happened to these jamaican artists, one day they're in the paper for charges of abuse/rape and the next they are being hailed the greatest! I happen to enjoy Jah Cure's music and can't I would NOT have attended Sumfest if I was in jamaica because I LOVE reggae and wouldn't want to miss out on the experience simply because of a few acts but I am completely empathetic with those who feel strongly enough not to attend. To each his own!
To those who feel the need to insult others who share a different view from their own, grow up and have some tact about yourselves!

i'm sorry, jah cure went to prison and paid his dues...chris brown also served his sentence. Is the person and anon 9:58 AM saying that the penal systems are not doing their jobs of rehabilitating people...COME ON PPL!
ReplyDeleteThey do dem time give them a break, i don't hear many ppl making a big fuss about bounty and di chupid gyal who him beat..she dropped the charges and he would have been free if not for this other charge. The other two did their time get over it.
PG ...I ASKED THAT QUESTION N STEPPED OUT, HAVEN'T READ THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS TILL NOW.I FEEL WAT URE SAYING BUT BEAR IN MIND WEN THE PERSON SAID" Is a good thing you didnt go anyway cause there was just not enough space there for one more idiot." I WANTED 2 KNOW IF THEY WERE REFERRING 2 ME FIRST B4 I ADDRESSED IT N I STILL DON'T KNOW BCUZ SOME PPL DON'T IDENTIFY THEMSELVES WITH AN ALIAS ALL THOSE COMMENTS SAID "ANONYMOUS". U SHUD C THE ONES I HAV 2 DELETE...IF ANON 12:06 SAID HE/SHE WAS REFERRING 2 THE PERSON WHO POSTED THIS IN THE GLEANER THEN I WUD HAV REMOVED THEIR COMMENT. WHO KNOWS I CUD BE THE IDIOT THEY DIDN'T WANT 2 TAKE UP SPACE THR...*Shrug shoulders*
ReplyDeleteSO YOU WERE A VICTIM OF DOMESTIC ABUSE ..... THATS EXPLAINS THE VILE, BITTER BITCH YOU HAVE BECOME ..... AND MAKE SURE YOU POST THIS ONE !!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen do u draw aline btwn a persons personal and professional life? When these men are incarcerated for their crimes they are charged by their birth name with alias used 2 draw additional attention. Domestic violence is a crime against humanity but where do u draw the line as a professional. If the demand for these men wasn't so large then they couldn't continue to proper in this industry and it isn't prevalent in only dancehall. Sport, politics u name it r filled w these people both male and female.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Jah Cure anyone that is familiar w that case knows the circumstantial details behind it but the jamaican justice system from what I see is a weird one.
Of all the reggae shows this year SummFest is said to b the best in terms of organization.
@Anonymous 5:21 I posted ure comment so ppl can see wat I hav 2 deal with. Evidently u lack comprehension or u hav an IQ of a rodent. "I didn't write that, it was an exert from the gleaner." If u are unable 2 comprehend such a simple statement u r obviously uneducated, stupid, simple or slow. Put ure comments in the "The vile, bitter bitch suggestion box"....BCUZ U R BLOCKED FROM POSTING HERE ANYMORE.
ReplyDeleteKizzy, it really rough pan yuh!!!! Not easy fi a mediate at all. I did the 11.30 post and I was aiming at the person who was implying that because the Chris Brown beat dry head Rihanna him must dead fi hungry fi di rest of him life. Reasoning there is for lack of a better word damn foolishniss. Not saying what he did was right but world know seh Bajian woman hand is very finicky... Dude paid his debt to society and di big forehead gal. See cause me not perfect, I dont expect anyone else to be.
ReplyDeleteIt's this "hold down" and stifle mentality that Jamaicans have that is hampering us from becoming more dominant in the 21st Century. Of course their actions are not to be glorified, there is no justification for it, but in life we all make mistakes, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. So when we lose, it is important not to lose the lesson. I guarantee that you will not see any similar action or reaction from Chris Brown. Jah Cure was found guity, accepted and did his time based on the laws that govern society. As for Bounty Killer's case, what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
ReplyDelete~ Sav-Man....
