POLICE THREAT LEVEL RAISED, 3 DEAD IN THE LAST FEW DAYZ

THE police high command has raised the threat level against its members to ‘Extreme’, following the murders of three policemen in three separate incidents over the last several days.‘Extreme’ means that the risk of attacks by criminals on police personnel and facilities is imminent, the police said today.

“Our intelligence and the actions of criminals over the last week indicate calculated assaults on police personnel as we continue to disrupt and displace criminal gangs across the island. It is therefore imperative that all police personnel be on high alert at all times by taking extra security precautions to protect themselves and their colleagues,” Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington said after a meeting this morning with his executive management board.

Special Constable James Lemmie, 22, became the ninth police officer to be murdered by criminals since the start of the year. Lemmie was murdered on Young Street in Spanish Town last night. He was attached to the St Catherine North Police Division.

FAKE DOCTOR CAUGHT IN STATE OF EMERGENCY

A man accused of practising illegally as a medical doctor for over 10 years in the Mountain View area of St Andrew, was remanded in custody for psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Friday.

The accused, Dolphy Gilpin, 53, was arrested on July 20 during a curfew that was imposed in East Kingston under the State of Emergency. Allegations are that the accused was driving along Mountain View Avenue when he was stopped by police officers and during a search of his car, medical equipment was allegedly found.

The police reportedly became suspicious and decided to conduct further checks at his home. During a subsequent search of his premises, the police found a sphygmomanometer, a stethoscope, syringes, needles and a stash of pharmaceutical items.The police also found 28 copies of general licence application forms that were affixed with Gilpin's signature.He was later arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of property, forgery and practising medicine without a licence, after it was revealed that he was not licensed to be a doctor and was warned by the by the Medical Association of Jamaica to desist from practising but ignored the warning.

Mayor lights up Jamaica Public Service (JPS) - Power company tackled for giving meters to 'squatters' on Hellshire Beach

Portmore Mayor Keith Hinds has given the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) a black eye for providing electricity, along with meters, to persons he says are squatting on the Hellshire Half Moon Bay Beach in the municipality."There is a problem with squatting on the beach. I am also absolutely disappointed with an agency called the Jamaica Public Service that has, in fact, gone ahead and put in meters to squatters on the beach,"

A livid Hinds argued that the light and power company's appetite for collecting revenue should not override the illegality of squatting.
