FORMER Cabinet minister and member of Parliament (MP) Horace Clarke, is recuperating in a St Andrew hospital after suffering a stroke last Friday.

He served as MP for Northern, East Central and later Central St Mary and also filled the Cabinet portfolios of Public Utilities, Mining and Natural Resources, Mining and Energy, and Agriculture under the People's National Party administration led by Michael Manley between 1972 and 1980, again from 1989 to 1992, and under PJ Patterson from 1993 until his retirement.

Clarke was said to be unable to speak, but recognised visitors and responded by way of hand movement when family and close friends tried to communicate with him
