NEW TWINS OF TWINS - GOD MAN

BIZNIZ AS USUAL DOWNTOWN 2DAY

It appears to be business as usually despite the tension hovering over downtown Kingston.

“But nothing not going on today man, everything alright; you don’t see the market full same way,” said a handcart vendor inside the Coronation Market, metres from where residents of Tivoli Gardens mounted a metal blockade on a road leading into the community.

The man, loading pieces of water melon into a female customer’s bag, said customer turn-out was in its 'high eighties'.“You know some people are going to be ’fraid to come out, but everybody know how town run. People just a try get what them want and move,” he continued.

“People who know the place will chance it and come out but not everybody,” she said. “Monday is holiday so you know them (police) not going to come for ‘Dudus’ until ’bout Tuesday, and plus people have to get them food for the holiday,” she added laughingly.

DUDUS GETS RICHER FROM HIS SHARES IN IEL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

Incomparable Enterprise Limited, a company in which alleged drug lord Christopher “Dudus” Coke is a shareholder, could earn between $20 million and $40 million from another Government project

This time the company is one of three contracted by Surrey Paving and Aggregate Company Limited to supply aggregate for the multi-billion Washington Boulevard road construction project.

Incomparable Enterprise has been contracted to truck and supply over 28,000 cubic yards of material to the project, which is being financed by the Caribbean Development Bank.

MAVADO WILL PERFORM 4 SEAGAS' BDAY

Mavado's manager Julian Jones-Griffiths says his artiste feels honoured, as he has been requested to perform at the birthday party of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga next weekend at Devon House, St Andrew.

"Mavado was invited to Edward Seaga's birthday party. Actually Olivia Grange called and said that Mr Seaga personally requested for Mavado to come and sing at his 80th birthday party,"

DUDUS' LAWYER DON FOOTE TELLS SUPREME COURT DUDUS WILL NOT COME IN

Foote yesterday appeared in court in an attempt to block the extradition of his client. That case is scheduled to be heard on May 31.

But the attorney was adamant that Coke would not surrender to the police, saying it was not a consideration at this time because his application for Judicial Review is before the court.

“I will now have to advise my client as to the fact that the matter has started,” the lawyer added.
Coke is seeking a Judicial Review of the decision by Justice Minister Dorothy Lightbourne, giving the authority to proceed with extradition proceedings against him.

The case before the Supreme Court does not prevent the police from executing the arrest warrant on Dudus.

VISA FEES INCREASED

THE United States will be increasing visa fees worldwide, including Jamaica, effective Friday June 4.

All persons whose interviews fall on or after that date must pay the new fees. Applicants with interviews scheduled for June 4 and who have already paid according to the old fee schedule must now return to NCB to pay the difference for their applications to be processed.

Under the new fees petition-based visas cost more than non-petition based visas.

New fee scehdule:

Non-petition-based visas:

•Visitor (B1/B2) US$140

•Crewmember (C1/D) US$140

•Student visas (F1 and M1) US$140

•Treaty Trader/Investor (E1 or E2) US$390

Petition-based visas:

•Temporary skilled workers (H-1B) US$150

•Temporary seasonal workers (H-2B) US$150

•Intra-company transferees (L1) US$150

•Performers (O and P) US$150

•Fiancé-based visas (K) US$350

A release from the US Embassy said that that the increased fees were necessary, "to better reflect the actual cost of providing services". It said that until now only 94 per cent of costs were recovered by visa fees, with the monthly US$5.4 million shortfall being borne by the US taxpayer

DUDUS COURT DATE SET

THE hearing for the application of the judicial review filed by attorneys representing reputed Tivoli Gardens don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke will be heard on May 31.

The hearing was set for this afternoon but was postponed because Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn — who is a defendant in the matter — was only served a summons just minutes before the hearing was set to begin.

On Wednesday lawyers for Coke filed a motion for the review of the Justice minister's decision to sign the authority to proceed with the extradition of Coke before Chief Justice Zaila McCalla.

The latest development means that security forces still have the authority to arrest Coke on sight as the warrant was not stayed by the Chief Justice.

POLICE PLEADING 2 TIVOLI PPL 2 REMOVE BARACADES

POLICE are calling on residents of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town in West Kingston to dismantle barricades and for lawyers of area don Christopher 'Dudus' to surrender their client.

Residents have erected barricades at the main entry points and across roads in an apparent move to protect Dudus, believed to still be in the community.
Police are waiting to execute a warrant for his arrest and want lawyers retained by Dudus to take their client to the nearest police station to allow the extradition warrant to be executed.

"The Police are informing these residents that it is a breach of the law to erect barricades which impede the movement of the security forces during the lawful performance of their duties," said a statement from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) this morning.

TIVOLI PPL SAYZ THEIR WILLING 2 DIE 4 DUDUS

"No hostage, no hostage, we are free; is lie them telling," shouted the women.
"We are not being held hostage in our community and no one not taking away our phones," said one woman, in reference to a police report Wednesday that thugs were also seizing residents' cell phones.

Under the steely gaze of a large contingent of cops, the demonstrators gathered outside the Denham Town Police Station on Spanish Town Road, waving placards with their messages of support for Coke, whom the US Government has accused of trafficking in guns and drugs.

In what appeared to be a highly organised but peaceful protest the demonstrators, the majority of them dressed in white, told the authorities to "leave 'Dudus' alone" with some boldly declaring that they were prepared to die for him.

HUMAN SHIELDS IN TIVOLI

Click image to view full size editorial cartoon

Thugs held residents of Tivoli Gardens, the power base of strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, as potential human shields and mounted deadly barricades to keep security forces at bay.

Near nightfall, the Jamaican authorities responded by summoning the Army Reserves, a clear sign that it was taking seriously the manoeuvres in Tivoli Gardens, ironically in the prime minister's Jamaica Labour Party constituency.

Questions about whether Coke was in the famous enclave went unanswered, but some of his supporters were clearly not taking any chances. Police said the thugs confiscated cellphones from law-abiding residents and prevented them from leaving the community.
Cooking gas cylinders were placed in the barricades around the community, while barbed wires were thrown on high voltage Jamaica Public Service electrical wires and attached to metal objects in the rubble, as they vowed not to allow the security forces to enter the community.

JLP COUNCILLOR SHOT

LITCHFIELD, Trelawny — Falmouth's deputy mayor Steve Warren is convinced that he escaped Monday's brutal attack on his life by gunmen solely by the grace of the Almighty.

Almost all the pieces of glass in my SUV were shot out. Shots went through the head rests; in the roof; in the dashboard, bullet holes are in the steering...all over the interior, "

Shattered window glass and numerous bullet holes inside the black Mitsubishi Montero Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) confirm Warren's account of the horrific attack which took place meters away from his home in this rural community at about 10:45 pm.
"I was on my way home and when I reached a few chains from my house I noticed that there was a car parked a little distance from my house, but I did not pay much attention to it... I continued to drive. Then suddenly I came under intense gun fire from right and from the left," recalled a seemingly relieved Warren, who escaped with a bullet wound to his right shoulder.
According Warren, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the Lorrimers Division, the barrage of gunshots came from two heavily-armed men who were strategically positioned on each side of the narrow unpaved roadway.
He said he returned the fire, but the hoodlums continued to fire their high powered weapons at him.
" Seeing that I was out -gunned and realising that I was shot in the right arm, I drove along the road speedily in a bid to save my life. The driver in the parked motorcar than sped off and picked up the two gunmen," Warren said.

POLICE RETREAT AFTER GUNMEN OPENED FIRE

MEMBERS of the security forces were forced to retreat this morning after gunmen opened at them as they tried to clear a roadblock at Oxford Street in Downtown Kingston.
"Law men went to the area to clear a road block in the community when they came under heavy gunfire," a police officer at the Hannah Town police station told the Observer.
Meanwhile police at the Mountain View Police Post reported that they had received threats that thugs aligned to Tivoli Gardens' don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke were planing to fire bomb the post.
"We have been receiving a number of  threats since this morning from men who say they are planning to carry out an attack and firebomb our station but we are on the lookout," said one cop.
