GOVT. SIDING WITH VYBZ KARTEL AGAINST HIS RECENT WORK PERMIT DENIAL

THE Government of Jamaica is siding with deejay Vybz Kartel following his ban from performing in the sister Caribbean island of St Lucia and now has the matter under investigation.
Wilton Dyer, head of communications at the trade ministry said the ministry has contacted its high commission in Trinidad & Tobago which has responsibility for St Lucia and also intends to speak with Vybz Kartel as they probe the decision to ban the artiste.
There is concern as to whether the ban imposed by the government of St Lucia on the deejay has breached the Caribbean Community (Caricom) Free Movement of Skills Initiative which relates to artistes, sports persons, musicians and media workers.

EX COP /LEADER OF UNITY GANG MARK SEWELL SHOT DEAD BY POLICE YESTERDAY

AN ex-policeman who was said to be the reputed leader of the Unity Gang was yesterday shot dead in an alleged shoot-out with the police at Morgans Lane in Homestead, St Catherine. Police said the reputed gang leader -- Mark Sewell -- was fatally shot after he engaged a police team in a shoot-out. A firearm was taken from his bodyResidents of Morgans Lane claimed that Sewell, 41, was murdered by the police and yesterday morning blocked the Old Harbour main road as they protested against the killing.
"Murder them murder me son. He was a man who was doing so much for the youth and the area," said a grieving Patricia Mitchell, mother of the slain man.
The distraught mother claimed that at about 6:00 am her son was at home when the police came and demanded that he open the grille gate to his house. The police, Mitchell said, opened fire on her son who had gone outside only in his underwear.A resident, who claimed to have witnessed the early morning shooting, said: "I saw when the police them came and started knocking down the grille to Sewell's house and he told them he was searching for a key. When he finally opened the door one policeman in the group walked up to him and shot him several times."
The resident added that while Sewell was on the ground another cop stood over him and pumped a bullet into his body.
"After them shoot him, I saw when one a the police take out a gun from him other policeman friend waist and fired it up in the air," the resident claimed.

JAH CURE SITTING IN A JAIL CELL ONCE AGAIN....

Reggae Singer Jah Cure is taking it easy after finding himself in trouble with the law once again.

The singer, whose name is Siccature Alcock, was arrested and charged yesterday with illegal possession of ganja.
Reports are that about 11 a.m., the singer was travelling along Dunrobin Avenue when he was stopped and searched during a spot check. Two ganja spliffs were reportedly found in the ash tray of the car, along with a small amount of marijuana in a bag. The police say the drug weighs about an ounce in total.

The reggae crooner, who was released on parole from jail in July 2007, wept when he was arrested. The singer was released from police custody yesterday and granted bail of $10,000.
When contacted about how the singer was doing, Jah Cure's publicist Robert Morgan commented, "him a tek it easy, is not a major thing, is just a spliff, not even an entire spliff."

He added, "he realise him just have to be more careful with what him a do. As a Rastaman, Jah Cure will smoke weed, is not a secret. The nation doesn't recognise weed as a sacrament to Rasta. But he realises it needs to be done in the privacy of wherever."

The singer had spent almost eight years in jail after being convicted on gun, rape and robbery charges in 1999.

The singer is set to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

DUDUS DAWG DEM READY FI SING LIKE NIGHTINGALE....

As the extradition issue concerning Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke gets more intense, thugs who earlier vowed that they would fight for him are now having second thoughts.

Persons who had once claimed they would have even sacrificed their own lives to defend Dudus are now wishing they could fly away, literally.

"Jah know if mi did have a visa mi gone wid di wind ... It might sound a way my yute but dis look like is a war weh wi cyaa win," one thug, Dawgisfrom Tivoli Gardens said.
Like other persons with whom THE WEEKEND STAR spoke, Dawgis was one of those thugs who earlier vowed to defend Dudus.
"Memba seh man come in and get gun and agree seh dem wouldn't run from di war ... A fret dem a fret now, some a dem all waa run weh cause dem realise seh dis ting bigga dan we," another known thug, Dawdieexplained

"Yu see if a did jus regular police wi woulda good trust mi ... But fi go tek on dem plus man from foreign a go too wicked ... A too much dat fi wi tek on," Dawdie added.

"A nuh play ting di man dem a deal wid ... Any man weh run from di gideon a go get pree (looked at) a way ...," Dawgis claimed.

Police sources are reluctant in speaking to any issue concerning or relating to the extradition of Dudus, however, after much deliberation, one high-ranking officer from the Kingston West Division said, "This is far greater than you and me but there are words on the street ... that there are men down in Tivoli that are now scared out of their wits ..."

NEVER NEED A MADDA WOMAN FI C DIS COMING. EVERYBODY HAV DEM FAMILY FI FEED N WEN AMERICA COME A YAWD N PUT ON DI PRESSURE U TINK SO MUCH PPL GOING 2 JAIL FI CHRISTOPHER, NOPE I DON'T THINK SO. KARTELS' STUDIO RAIDED AGAIN....

A group of men found at a premises which was previously operated by Vybz Kartel as a studio at Kirk Avenue in Havendale, St Andrew, were taken to the Constant Spring Police Station for questioning yesterday.

"I am not the one dealing with the issue but we are checking to see if the place is still being used as a studio because it was ordered to be shut down. A group of men were seen there one of whom is a man who is wanted by the West Kingston Police Division," the senior officer told THE WEEKEND STAR before promising to provide a further update as the investigations continue.
Vybz Kartel, however, was not taken in for questioning.
The St Andrew North police are now looking into possibilities that the premises is still being used as a studio despite last month's order from the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) that it be shutdown.

There is no studio at Kirk Avenue, there is no equipment at the premises to facilitate recording, the equipmenthas been moved to another location," Kartel explained last night.

SIZZLA DEM SEH U A HIDE OUT A ZIMBABWE 2 ESCAPE GUN CHARGE....HMMM

Sizzla's publicist Olimatta Taal has pushed aside reports published in an overseas newspaper which claims that the artiste has fled from Jamaica to live in Zimbabwe because of gun and murder related charges.

The article, 'Mugabe offers Jamaican artiste farm for ZANU-PF public relations', which was published in The Zimdiaspora on Monday, claimed that Sizzla "is on the run from Jamaican authorities for gun related and robbery cases in Kingston and is preparing to set up base in Zimbabwe after he was offered a farm. Indications are that he will not be returning to his native Jamaica where he is under investigation for several violent crimes which include armed robbery and murder. It continued.

Taal said Sizzla has been on tour in Africa since late February. In addition to Zimbabwe, he has performed in other countries on the continent, including South Africa and Ghana. She said he might return to Jamaica in May before a performance in Trinidad. Taal did admit that Sizzla was given land for his two performances in Zimbabwe for the country's 30th independence celebration. But the land, she said, was in no way related to politics.
Instead of giving him cash (for the performances) they gave him land.

ACCESS DENIED AGAIN KARTEL??? NO WORK PERMIT FI YUH

Vybz Kartel's travelling options have again been limited, as he was recently denied a work permit to perform in St
Lucia.

St Lucian government yesterday stated that Vybz Kartel will not be given a permit to perform in that country next weekend.
It said: "Having looked carefully at the significant amount of information presented, and considering the views and opinions of the many individuals and institutions as well as available options, the Government of St Lucia, through the Ministry of Labour, Information and Broadcasting, has decided not to grant a work permit to Mr Adidja Azim Palmer, otherwise known as Vybz Kartel, for performances at the Hot FM-promoted Supreme Weekend show. This show is scheduled for April 30 and May 1, 2010"Government has written to the show promoters and has offered them the option of reapplying for the granting of work permits to the other artistes included on the show with the exclusion of Mr Adidja Azim Palmer, aka Vybz Kartel."When contacted by THE STAR, Vybz Kartel gave no comment

CHUCK FENDER SPEAKS ON HIS CAR ACCIDENT LAST FRIDAY

Dancehall artiste Chuck Fenda is giving thanks after he was involved in a serious accident in St Ann early Friday morning.

The artiste, whose real name is Leshorn Whitehead, told THE STAR that he is lucky to have only received cuts and slashes after his Toyota RAV4 flipped three times and landed into a steep ditch. He was on his way to the Irie FM road show. He said, "I was driving from Kingston to MoBay Friday, about 7:30 a.m., and I was on the Chalky Hill Road, going down to St Ann's Bay. I approached a steep corner, but it seemed like there was oil on the road cause when I turned di corner, di van jus start slide. Mi touch di brake and it still did a slide, so mi jus hold di steering and di van flip three time and den lan' inna di ditch."

The entertainer, who was travelling with his selector Shabba, said farmers who were nearby came to their assistance. He said his selector suffered cuts and bruises and a few broken fingers while he received "some chops and slashes" on his knees and hands.

Fenda explained that he was to have driven down to Montego Bay in a bus provided by the show's organisers, but said it left Kingston at 3 a.m. and he woke up after 4. "When mi wake di bus reach a Flat Bridge, so mi jus seh mi a go tek mi time and cruise down. There was nothing I could do to stop the accident. It was just the power of Jah. If yu see how di van look or how di ditch deep!"
