The House today passed the regulations to accompany the Plea bargaining Legislation, which was approved in December 2005.
The Prime Minister Bruce Golding said the Plea Bargaining law would help the prosecution to secure evidence that will assist in convicting greater offenders. Under the plea bargaining law, offenders exchange information for lighter sentences.
Golding said the plea negotiations would only be conducted when the accused has a lawyer
and where the victim or the dependent of the victims is consulted.
However, South St Catherine MP, Fitz Jackson raised concern as to whether the possibility of facing a minimum sentence would deter the offender from exchanging information.
NO NEED 2 PRETTY IT UP THIS IS THE *INFORMER LAW,* TELL ME WAT U KNOW N U GET A LESSER SENTENCE. IF THIS IS NOW THE LAW, NUH NUFF LIE DEM A GO TELL, DON'T U THINK, SMART ASS BRUCE
